Redump.org does this to differentiate between the types.

Steam (.sis/.sim/.sid) -> .SIS .SIM & .SID files are present on disc -> ( http://redump.org/disc/12943/ )
Steam (.sis/.csm/.csd) -> .SIS .CSM & .CSD files are present on disc -> ( http://redump.org/disc/101916/ )
