\par This unit can generate either a black signal or a color bar. In 625 lines system a 75 % or a 100 % can be selected. In 525 lines system a SMPTE color bar is selected. The unit has two parallel outputs.
\par
\par The selected signal can be time adjusted ± 1 field ( totally 625 lines or 525 lines) with a resolution of 1/27E6 sec.

\par This unit is controlled by a }{\lang1033 {\field{\*\fldinst SYMBOL 109 \\f "Symbol" \\s 12}{\fldrslt\f3\fs24}}}{\lang1033 -controller. This }{\lang1033 {\field{\*\fldinst SYMBOL 109 \\f "Symbol" \\s 12}{\fldrslt\f3\fs24}}}{\lang1033 -controller interfaces to the master controller via a two-wire serial bus and a reset wire. The video part of the generator is controlled by a clock signal and, for each system (625 lines and 525 lines), a line pulse (625 lines: FH_G; 525 lines: FH_M) and a color framing pulse. Color framing: 625 lines/525 lines: 2500/1050 lines between each pulse. (625 lines: F8_G; 525 lines: F4_M).

\par

\par When power is switched on, the master controller detects presence of one or more SDI black & color bar generators. When detected, the unit(s) receive information of what to generate, pattern, sound, EDH-codes and timing. When this information is received, sounddata and color bars for the chosen system are stored in RAM (V56 & V57). When writing to the RAM, PS-bit (V50, pin 40) is high, else low. Last a 11 bit word is written to H-OFFSET PORT. This word is the sample offset between incoming and generated line pulse. Line and field offset is generated by the }{\lang1033 {\field{\*\fldinst SYMBOL 109 \\f "Symbol" \\s 12}{\fldrslt\f3\fs24}}}{\lang1033 -controller, see later.

\par From system select inside V54 and the H-counter inside V63 comes a field/8 or field/4 (VINT)and a line interrupt (HINT) to the }{\lang1033 {\field{\*\fldinst SYMBOL 109 \\f "Symbol" \\s 12}{\fldrslt\f3\fs24}}}{\lang1033 -controller. From these interrupts two bits are generated (V73, pin18 & 19). These two bits together with H-counter combines to correct black line. Two bits (V73, pin 17 & 16) is used to select 1 of 4 possible lines to generate, 0 0 = black line; 0 1, 1 0 and 1 1 will generate one of the 3 color bar lines stored in RAM. The RAM-address for the color bar comes from H-counter in V63.
\par
\par Sound is also inserted to the signal in V63. When SOUND-bit (V73, pin 13) is high, sound-framing words are generated in \lquote sound framing generator\rquote . Sound data are inserted in the data multiplexer, which also calculates and inserts a checksum for sound data on each line. Sound data are stored in RAM and addressed by \lquote Sound address counter\rquote in V63. When FIELD_1, V73, pin 12 is low, 3 sound samples for each of the four channels are inserted. When FIELD_1 is high, 4 samples are inserted.
\par
\par At the output on V63, [DO9..DO0] pin 21 to 9 a correct 10 bit D1 parallel signal is present. These ten bits are clocked into EDH-inserter V65. This circuit calculates and inserts EDH-codes to the data stream. Insertion takes place when EDH-bit (V73, pin 15) is low. When EDH-bit is high, data are clocked through without modification.
\par
\par The ten bits are serialized in V59. Output from this circuit feeds the output amplifier V60. This amplifier contains 2 amplifiers which drives 2 output BNC-connectors. Signals on these connectors are identical but independent of each other.
\par
\par A level detector is connected, via transformers TR1 and TR2, directly to the output BNC\rquote s. For TR1: Signal from this transformer is rectified by D201 and V201A. The signal is then lowpass-filtered and amplified by V201B. This gives a, nearly, DC-voltage at TP201/TP205 on -1.3V when the signal is correct (output open or terminated). This voltage holds TP202 and XA1, pin 5 high. If signal at the BNC-connector vanishes, e.g. amplifier\rquote s not working, the DC-voltage raises to 0V. Then V203B takes TP202 and XA1, pin 5 low, indicating an error. Similar function for TR2, V211, V213 & XA1, pin 6.
