I just moved from 0.93 to the new 0.96.1-4 series of releases.
After changing my old options ("-quiet -sc"), I see two minor differences/problems.
If these are in fact features and not bugs, please explain if they can be suppressed.

  1. an extra output file ("*.p1.svc01.srt") is being created with all CAPS text.
  2. the "--quiet" isn't quiet any longer.
    $ ccextractor --quiet --sentencecap A.mts -o A-tmp.srt
    File seems to be a transport stream

    New video information found
    [704 * 480] [AR: 03 - 16:9] [FR: 04 - 29.97] [progressive: no]

    $ ls *.srt
    A-tmp.p1.svc01.srt  A-tmp.srt

[FYI: in VLC, my sample file also shows four EIA-608 subtitle streams]

    $ ccextractor -L A.mts

    CCExtractor Track Listing
    -------------------------
    File: A.mts
    Format: MPEG Transport Stream

    Available tracks:
      Track 1: Type: Video, Codec: MPEG-1/2 Video (PID 256)
      Track 2: Type: Audio, Codec: AC-3 (PID 257)

    Track listing completed.

@delawooz --quiet should work now (in master). 0.96.5 will be released soon if you prefer to wait.

VLC always provides (AFAIK) 4 captions tracks if CEA-608 captions are present. Tracks may be empty though. But if you have any media in which VLC shows captions CCExtractor can't extract I'd love to take a look.

If you don't want the CEA-708 file, pass -1 as an argument, that should do the trick.

In some, but not all, cases CEA-708 (that's digital captions) are better quality than CEA-608 (analog). If that's not the case for you, -1 will have CCExtractor not write them to file.

@cfsmp3, Thanks, for your quick response, the fix and the explanation. I do see now that the newest help text clearly says "ccextractor now extracts both CEA-608 and CEA-708 subtitles [...] in two output files" (the old RTFM :-)

Regards.
