163cd0ae11 io: separate freeing of tasks from marking them as complete
The original design of QIOTask was intended to simplify lifecycle
management by automatically freeing it when the task was marked as
complete. This overlooked the fact that when a QIOTask is used in
combination with a GSource, there may be times when the source
callback is never invoked. This is typically when a GSource is
released before any I/O event arrives. In such cases it is not
desirable to mark a QIOTask as complete, but it still needs to be
freed. To satisfy this, the task must be released manually.

45a6256830 char-udp: Fix initial backend open status
This patch removes the `*be_opened = false` override for the UDP chardev
backend. Since UDP is connectionless it never sends a `CHR_EVENT_OPENED`
so it is never marked open. This causes some frontends (e.g. virtio-serial)
to never perform any operations on the socket.

168558ed7b tests: Clean up includes
This commit was created with scripts/clean-includes:
 ./scripts/clean-includes --git tests tests

with one hand-edit to remove a now-empty #ifndef WIN32...#endif
from tests/qtest/dbus-display-test.c .

All .c should include qemu/osdep.h first. The script performs three
related cleanups:

* Ensure .c files include qemu/osdep.h first.
* Including it in a .h is redundant, since the .c already includes
  it. Drop such inclusions.
* Likewise, including headers qemu/osdep.h includes is redundant.
  Drop these, too.

ded29e64c6 aio-posix: integrate fdmon into glib event loop
AioContext's glib integration only supports ppoll(2) file descriptor
monitoring. epoll(7) and io_uring(7) disable themselves and switch back
to ppoll(2) when the glib event loop is used. The main loop thread
cannot use epoll(7) or io_uring(7) because it always uses the glib event
loop.

Future QEMU features may require io_uring(7). One example is uring_cmd
support in FUSE exports. Each feature could create its own io_uring(7)
context and integrate it into the event loop, but this is inefficient
due to extra syscalls. It would be more efficient to reuse the
AioContext's existing fdmon-io_uring.c io_uring(7) context because
fdmon-io_uring.c will already be active on systems where Linux io_uring
is available.

In order to keep fdmon-io_uring.c's AioContext operational even when the
glib event loop is used, extend FDMonOps with an API similar to
GSourceFuncs so that file descriptor monitoring can integrate into the
glib event loop.

A quick summary of the GSourceFuncs API:
- prepare() is called each event loop iteration before waiting for file
  descriptors and timers.
- check() is called to determine whether events are ready to be
  dispatched after waiting.
- dispatch() is called to process events.

More details here: https://docs.gtk.org/glib/struct.SourceFuncs.html

Move the ppoll(2)-specific code from aio-posix.c into fdmon-poll.c and
also implement epoll(7)- and io_uring(7)-specific file descriptor
monitoring code for glib event loops.

Note that it's still faster to use aio_poll() rather than the glib event
loop since glib waits for file descriptor activity with ppoll(2) and
does not support adaptive polling. But at least epoll(7) and io_uring(7)
now work in glib event loops.

Splitting this into multiple commits without temporarily breaking
AioContext proved difficult so this commit makes all the changes. The
next commit will remove the aio_context_use_g_source() API because it is
no longer needed.

330adf44dc tests/unit: skip test-nested-aio-poll with io_uring
test-nested-aio-poll relies on internal details of how fdmon-poll.c
handles AioContext polling. Skip it when other fdmon implementations are
in use.

The reason why fdmon-io_uring.c behaves differently from fdmon-poll.c is
that its fdmon_ops->need_wait() function returns true when
io_uring_enter(2) must be called (e.g. to submit pending SQEs).
AioContext polling is skipped when ->need_wait() returns true, so the
test case will never enter AioContext polling mode with
fdmon-io_uring.c.

Restrict this test to fdmon-poll.c and drop the
aio_context_use_g_source() call since it's no longer necessary.

Note that this test is only built on POSIX systems so it is safe to
include "util/aio-posix.h".

8031b5fb1a crypto: avoid loading the identity certs twice
The x509 TLS credentials code will load the identity certs once to
perform sanity chcking on the certs, then discard the certificate
objects and let gnutls load them a second time.

This extends the previous QCryptoTLSCredsX509Files struct to also
hold the identity certificates & key loaded for sanity checking
and pass them on to gnutls, avoiding the duplicated loading.

The unit tests need updating because we now correctly diagnose the
error scenario where the cert PEM file exists, without its matching
key PEM file. Previously that error was mistakenly ignored.

certificate, which DOES currently support multiple certificates, this
instead allows the issued certificate chains to be used as-is, without
requiring the overhead of shuffling certificates around.

c677657e99 crypto: fix error reporting in cert chain checks
The loop that checks the CA certificate chain can fail to report

6f9fc6f501 migration: Remove error variant of vmstate_save_state() function
This commit removes the redundant vmstate_save_state_with_err()
function.

Previously, commit 969298f9d7 introduced vmstate_save_state_with_err()
to handle error propagation, while vmstate_save_state() existed for
non-error scenarios.
This is because there were code paths where vmstate_save_state_v()
(called internally by vmstate_save_state) did not explicitly set
errors on failure.

This change unifies error handling by
 - updating vmstate_save_state() to accept an Error **errp argument.
 - vmstate_save_state_v() ensures errors are set directly within the errp
object, eliminating the need for two separate functions.

All calls to vmstate_save_state_with_err() are replaced with
vmstate_save_state(). This simplifies the API and improves code
maintainability.

vmstate_save_state() that only calls vmstate_save_state_v(),
by inference, also has errors set in errp in case of failure.
The errors are reported using error_report_err().
If we want the function to exit on error, then &error_fatal is
passed.

c632ffbd74 migration: push Error **errp into vmstate_load_state()
This is an incremental step in converting vmstate loading
code to report error via Error objects instead of directly
printing it to console/monitor.
It is ensured that vmstate_load_state() must report an error
in errp, in case of failure.

The errors are temporarily reported using error_report_err().
This is removed in the subsequent patches in this series,
when we are actually able to propagate the error to the calling
function using errp. Whereas, if we want the function to exit on
error, then error_fatal is passed.

bcb536cabe error: Kill @error_warn
We added @error_warn some two years ago in commit 3ffef1a55c (error:

* error.h's big comment was not updated for it.

* Function contracts were not updated for it.

* ERRP_GUARD() is unaware of @error_warn, and fails to mask it from
error_prepend() and such. These crash on @error_warn, as pointed
  out by Akihiko Odaki.

All fixable. However, after more than two years, we had just of 15

otherwise undesirable, adding back five elsewhere. I didn't look

8cb17f9c36 util: drop qemu_socket_set_nonblock()
Use common qemu_set_blocking() instead.

Note that pre-patch the behavior of Win32 and Linux realizations
are inconsistent: we ignore failure for Win32, and assert success
for Linux.

How do we convert the callers?

1. Most of callers call qemu_socket_set_nonblock() on a
freshly created socket fd, in conditions when we may simply
report an error. Seems correct switching to error handling
both for Windows (pre-patch error is ignored) and Linux
(pre-patch we assert success). Anyway, we normally don't
expect errors in these cases.

Still in tests let's use &error_abort for simplicity.

What are exclusions?

2. hw/virtio/vhost-user.c - we are inside #ifdef CONFIG_LINUX,
so no damage in switching to error handling from assertion.

3. io/channel-socket.c: here we convert both old calls to
qemu_socket_set_nonblock() and qemu_socket_set_block() to
one new call. Pre-patch we assert success for Linux in
qemu_socket_set_nonblock(), and ignore all other errors here.
So, for Windows switch is a bit dangerous: we may get
new errors or crashes(when error_abort is passed) in
cases where we have silently ignored the error before
(was it correct in all such cases, if they were?) Still,
there is no other way to stricter API than take
this risk.

4. util/vhost-user-server - compiled only for Linux (see
util/meson.build), so we are safe, switching from assertion to
&error_abort.

Note: In qga/channel-posix.c we use g_warning(), where g_printerr()
would actually be a better choice. Still let's for now follow
common style of qga, where g_warning() is commonly used to print
such messages, and no call to g_printerr(). Converting everything
to use g_printerr() should better be another series.

Channel-socket realization actually either ignore or crash on

So, convert all callers to either handle the error (where environment

Take also a chance to change the return value to more convenient

return -1 on failure, not -errno).

6b89e851fa block: add bdrv_graph_wrlock_drained() convenience wrapper
Many write-locked sections are also drained sections. A new
bdrv_graph_wrunlock_drained() wrapper around bdrv_graph_wrunlock() is
introduced, which will begin a drained section first. A global
variable is used so bdrv_graph_wrunlock() knows if it also needs
to end such a drained section. Both the aio_poll call in
bdrv_graph_wrlock() and the aio_bh_poll() in bdrv_graph_wrunlock()
can re-enter a write-locked section. While for the latter, ending the
drain could be moved to before the call, the former requires that the
variable is a counter and not just a boolean.

Since the wrapper calls bdrv_drain_all_begin(), which must be called
with the graph unlocked, mark the wrapper as GRAPH_UNLOCKED too.

The switch to the new helpers was generated with the following
commands and then manually checked:
find . -name '*.c' -exec sed -i -z 's/bdrv_drain_all_begin();\n\s*bdrv_graph_wrlock();/bdrv_graph_wrlock_drained();/g' {} ';'

a1ea8eb591 block: move drain outside of bdrv_try_change_aio_context()
This is part of resolving the deadlock mentioned in commit "block:
move draining out of bdrv_change_aio_context() and mark GRAPH_RDLOCK".

Convert the function to a _locked() version that has to be called with
the graph lock held and add a convenience wrapper that has to be
called with the graph unlocked, which drains and takes the lock
itself. Since bdrv_try_change_aio_context() is global state code, the
wrapper is too.

Callers are adapted to use the appropriate variant, depending on
whether the caller already holds the lock. In the
test_set_aio_context() unit test, prior drains can be removed, because
draining already happens inside the new wrapper.

Note that bdrv_attach_child_common_abort(), bdrv_attach_child_common()
and bdrv_root_unref_child() hold the graph lock and are not actually
allowed to drain either. This will be addressed in the following
commits.

Functions like qmp_blockdev_mirror() query the nodes to act on before
draining and locking. In theory, draining could invalidate those nodes.
This kind of issue is not addressed by these commits.

1bd4237cb1 util/qemu-sockets: Introduce inet socket options controlling TCP keep-alive
With the default TCP stack configuration, it could be even 2 hours
before the connection times out due to the other side not being
reachable. However, in some cases, the application needs to be aware of
a connection issue much sooner.

This is the case, for example, for postcopy live migration. If there is
no traffic from the migration destination guest (server-side) to the
migration source guest (client-side), the destination keeps waiting for
pages indefinitely and does not switch to the postcopy-paused state.
This can happen, for example, if the destination QEMU instance is
started with the '-S' command line option and the machine is not started
yet, or if the machine is idle and produces no new page faults for
not-yet-migrated pages.

This patch introduces new inet socket parameters that control count,
idle period, and interval of TCP keep-alive packets before the
connection is considered broken. These parameters are available on
systems where the respective TCP socket options are defined, that
includes Linux, Windows, macOS, but not OpenBSD. Additionally, macOS
defines TCP_KEEPIDLE as TCP_KEEPALIVE instead, so the patch supplies its
