Trying to read between the lines here (since you decided to forgo the issue template...)

Are you saying that when you launch a new tab with cmd.exe, it looks different than when you launch cmd.exe directly and use the default terminal setting to have that cmd attach to the Terminal?

Could you share your settings.json file? Which version of the OS you're on? Which version of the Terminal you're using?

latest version of windows terminal no update on winget

That's not a version number - actual numbers are important here. It's harder to resolve issues if we need to go and look up which version of WT was available on winget when you posted 😉. It goes double for Store installs, because those don't always pull down updates immediately. Especially because this area of the codebase has had a lot of changes over the last few releases.

I'm betting this is a docs issue. I think what you're seeing is by design.

  • When you run cmd directly, we can find a match for that application in your settings. The Command Prompt profile has the same commandline, so we use those settings.
  • When you run a batch file, we don't find a match for that in the settings. There's no profile that looks anything like that commandline, so we instead fall back to the profiles.defaults "profile". That one doesn't have any acrylic enabled, so that's why it looks black, relative to the CMD profile.

Does that make sense?

Okay, yea that sounds like what's happening. I forgot the matching was only added in 1.12. There's a lot more discussion on the same topic in #11836
