Steps to reproduce

  1. set transparency below 100% in "Defaults" profile
  2. click "Save"
  3. close terminal
  4. open terminal

Expected Behavior

When transparency is set below 100%, shell backgrounds should display with the set transparency at launch.

Actual Behavior

When transparency is set below 100%, shell backgrounds display as completely opaque until Windows terminal is no longer focused.

Hmm, curious. Could you share your settings.json file?

This feels a bit like #16052, though in your case, you're not using acrylic.

Also, I didn't think that unfocused transparency was in 1.18 at all? I thought we only added that in 1.19 (currently Terminal Preview, not Stable). Are you sure you're running 1.18.3181.0/?

Could you share your [settings.json file](https://github.com/microsoft/terminal/wiki/Frequently-Asked-Questions-(FAQ)#where-can-i-find-the-settings-file)? I'd also like to note that this behavior is observable on all 3 of my PCs. Each on their own chipset (Intel 690, AMD X399, AMD TRX40) running the same version of Windows 11 (22631.2861) activated with the same license type (Windows 11 Pro N For Workstations).

So, it's not localized to a single machine.

Each on their own chipset (Intel 690, AMD X399, AMD TRX40) running the same version of Windows 11 (`22631.2861`) activated with the same license type (Windows 11 Pro N For Workstations). So, it's not localized to a single machine.

As of OS Build 22631.3085 the issue has ceased to occur. Terminal now launches with the proper level of transparency.

This is definitely related to some hidden enforced styling for the profile for Ubuntu by Canonical, CanonicalGroupLimited.Ubuntu_79rhkp1fndgsc.

The Windows.Terminal.Wsl profile doesn't get in your way.

However, something decided to set the WSL profile to "hidden", so if you just click on any arbitrary "Ubuntu" menu entry, you'll get the one with the Ubuntu logo, and the purple background, which clashes with default terminal colors. If you delete the CanonicalGroup profile, it'll reappear.

Edit your settings.json, make sure you have something like this in there:

            {
                "guid": "{2c4de342-38b7-51cf-b940-2309a097f518}",
                "hidden": false,
                "name": "WSL Terminal",
                "source": "Windows.Terminal.Wsl"
            },

And you can set the CanonicalGroup's "hidden": true too.
