Windows Terminal version

1.23.10353.0

Windows build number

10.0.26100.3194

Other Software

Nvidia GeForce drivers 572.70

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch 'Windows Terminal Preview'

Expected Behavior

No rendering errors.

Actual Behavior

Lots of repeated rendering error messages and pop-ups

Since upgrading to current Nvidia GeForce drivers Windows Terminal crashes over and over with the errors below. Happens for Direct3D and Direct2D. Switch to software rendering (WARP) fixes the problem. Previously I had no problems with older Nvidia drivers from ~1 year ago.

Testing an old Windows Terminal Version: 1.21.10351.0 with same Nvidia GeForce drivers seems to have no problems for Direct3D and Direct2D. It is only the 1.23 'Preview' that crashes.

That error is D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE. Does this issue occur with just 1 window and 1 tab? Does it occur if Windows Terminal is the only visible running application? When did you last reboot

FWIW, the 570 driver series has a lot of bugs, particularly outside of Windows Terminal, and I personally went back to 566.36 recently. Also, we haven't made any changes to the rendering code in ~1 year, so I'm a little surprised it only occurs to Preview.

Semi-off topic: can we fall back to warp when we face rendering issues? So at least we display something
