Description of the new feature

Why Cross-Platform

Windows Terminal should work on Linux and macOS too, not just Windows.

  • So we can actually use its features everywhere
  • So Microsoft tools can reach more developers
  • So it can really compete with Linux/macOS terminals
  • So Windows Terminal can grab the power and ecosystem, not stay Windows-only

Bottom line: cross-platform isn’t a “nice-to-have”—it’s how this terminal can become truly powerful.

Login & Sync

Windows Terminal should allow users to log in, so their setup can follow them across devices.

With login support, users could:

  • Save and sync commands
  • Save extensions and their settings
  • Use the same setup on Windows, Linux, macOS, or even Android

Bottom line: login and sync make the terminal experience seamless and portable.

Proposed technical implementation details

Hi. We would like your feature requests much better if you didn't use a language model to make them 30x longer than they need to be.

Considering that we have deep dependencies on the Windows platform (all the way down in our renderer, which uses Direct3D 11) we are not likely to be bringing it to other platforms. I'm sorry.
