Description of the new feature/enhancement

Have the desktop image be used as the background for the terminal. However, instead of resizing the image to fit the terminal, the terminal should 'crop out' the part of the image it would currently cover and use that as its background. This is similar to the acrylic effect, however it does not show what is behind the window but instead the desktop wallpaper that would be behind it.

This is a really neat idea for an extension, so I'm tossing it in the extensions megathread, #4000. Thanks!

When the terminal window is dragged, should the image be updated on each frame (or with some other frequency throughout the dragging) or only after the dragging is finished?

I feel like it would look best if its live (each frame) updated but then again most people do not spend that much time dragging a window compared to using it.

Wait this is just "I want the background to be transparent", isn't it?

That's what I get for triaging at 6am. This is actually being tracked over in /dup #603. Thanks everyone!

No this is different. You do no look through the window to see what behind it, instead the part of one's background image that the window would be covering is shown. This exist on linux and its really cool

Can we reopen this please
