"Gadget" is the modern slang for any highly advanced, small technological device of dubious origin.
These artifacts can be found in black markets and the like.
To the untrained mind, gadgets are little more than small trinkets, souvenirs from distant civilizations. Only scientists are capable of unlocking their full potential.
Scientists can use gadgets up to their level or less.
Gadgets are old and unstable, so each time a character activates it the player must roll 1d20 and add their Intellect Modifier: if the result is lower than the Break value of the gadget, it will be damaged beyond repair. If the gadget breaks, no effect will happen.
